A thin film laser cutting machine is a precision cutting system built for coating or laminating lines rather than for sheet-metal workshops. On the PowerDe thin film equipment line, the machine covers the cutting process of PE film and protective film at the later stage of perovskite solar photovoltaic film, and the same series also serves research and development work on perovskite solar cells, OLED, lithium batteries, quantum dot LEDs and OPVs, including nanoscale oxide, nitride and metal film materials.

What the machine physically is

The PowerDe Laser Cutting Machine is a stand-alone bench-top class unit on a 2760 mm x 2000 mm x 1500 mm frame, driven by 3-axis servo control and run from a PLC with a touch screen. Air or water cooling is offered, and the working envelope takes products up to 1000 mm long, 630 mm wide and 0.10 mm thick, which tells you the intended workpiece: a coated or laminated panel, not a coil or a plate. Positioning is rated at ±0.1 mm cutting accuracy with ±0.02 mm repeatability, and feed rates are published as 0–1000 mm/s idle speed with a 100–150 mm/s cutting time figure. A single piece is quoted at 40 s of cutting time and a product pass rate of ≥99%, on a 220 V ±10%, 50 Hz supply, in a 0°C–40°C room.

The laser control figure printed on the page is "630–145W (Related to the United States)", which is inconsistent and should be confirmed with the manufacturer before it enters a specification sheet or purchase document. Treat it as unresolved, not as a power rating you can design around.

Where it sits in the process

On a perovskite or other thin film line the cutting head never touches bare brittle coating directly in the way a punch would. The film stack still carries a protective layer or a PE backing when it reaches this station, and the cut has to be clean enough that the protective layer can later be removed without lifting the film underneath. That is why this station appears at the end of the process, after coating and lamination, and why the machine is supplied as part of a series alongside slit coating equipment, glove box spin coating equipment, roll-to-roll magnetron sputtering coating and the related perovskite production line equipment, rather than as a machine sold on its own in a metal shop.

When to use it instead of die cutting or blade trimming

Choose laser cutting on thin film when the part changes shape often, when tooling cost cannot be justified, or when the cut edge has to survive handling and inspection without mechanical lifting. A 3-axis servo platform with ±0.02 mm repeatability re-runs a recipe without changing tooling, which is the normal situation in R&D work where the sample geometry changes every batch. On a coating line, the machine takes over after deposition, so it is sized to match the coating format: a 1000 x 630 mm maximum product matches the panel format used across this series, and a cut that misses that format belongs on a different station.

A die or blade is still the better answer when the geometry never changes and volumes are high enough to amortise the tool. For small lots, mixed formats and prototype films, the laser station removes the tool lead time and keeps the cut inside the accuracy band the line already runs to.

What to check before you specify one

  • Sample the film you actually run. Bring a coated panel with its PE or protective layer, at the real thickness, and inspect the cut edge under the same conditions you inspect finished goods.
  • Confirm the laser control figure against a written, unambiguous value from the manufacturer, and ask which film types that figure applies to.
  • Check the utility side early: the machine runs on 220 V ±10%, 50 Hz and can be cooled by air or water. Confirm which cooling option your facility supports before the layout is frozen.
  • Match the workpiece to the published envelope of 1000 x 630 x 0.10 mm. If your panel is thicker or longer, that is a different machine conversation.
  • Ask for the cut to be demonstrated as part of the line sequence, not as an isolated test, since the pass rate and cycle time figures on the page describe this station in series with the coating steps.

Talk to the factory

PowerDe builds this station as part of its thin-film solar equipment range and also develops non-standard automation and process equipment for battery, OLED, quantum dot LED and OPV work. Send your film stack, panel size and target cycle time to the engineering team and they will confirm which configuration fits your line.
