What questions should buyers ask about PowerDe PWD01 mobile steam cleaner?

PowerDe lists the PWD01 as a driving-style mobile active-water cleaning machine with dry-steam, wet-steam and hot-water modes, intended mainly for indoor garages and narrow outdoor parking spaces, in two variants: one supplied with a battery and one without. That is the whole of the published description, which is why buyers need to fill the gaps before ordering. The questions below are the ones to put to any supplier - including us - so that the specification on the purchase order matches the site it will work on.

1. Which PWD01 variant is on the quotation - battery or no battery?

The PWD01 appears twice in the PowerDe cleaning equipment range, as the battery-included machine and as the machine listed without battery. Neither listing spells out how the two differ beyond that, so the battery details have to be settled line by line on the quotation rather than inferred from the model name.

Ask the supplier to state in writing whether the working power supply is a battery pack or a mains connection; the pack capacity and the continuous runtime on a full charge; the charger output and recharge time; and whether the pack carries the same warranty period as the machine. Ask separately whether the battery ships fitted in the unit or as a separate package, because that changes freight handling, customs paperwork and what your team unpacks on day one.

One point of comparison is available in the range: the published parameters for the hand-pushed HMW3 record a 48 V battery as its working power supply. No equivalent figure is published for the PWD01, so do not carry that number across - request the figure for the model on your order.

2. What performance figures are published for this model?

The PWD01 pages name the three modes - dry steam, wet steam and hot water - but do not give steam temperature, steam pressure, heating power or water consumption for the model. Those four values are the minimum dataset for comparing any mobile steam cleaning machine, and they should be requested model by model rather than taken from a company brochure.

The fixed HW02 shows the level of detail a buyer should expect: 6 kW heating power, 160° steam temperature, 0.8 MPa vapour pressure and an 80 L SUS304 tank, with a tap-water inlet and a 4-point internal-tooth joint. Ask for the same parameter block for the PWD01 before signing, and ask for it as a document attached to the quotation.

3. Can the machine work where I work?

"Indoor garages and narrow outdoor parking spaces" describes the intended environment, not your site. Set out your own conditions and ask whether they are inside the machine's limits: which supply is available at the bay (a 220 V outlet, a water inlet, or neither), what floor surface the machine runs on, and what the ambient temperature range is in winter. A battery-fed unit removes the cable run but not the need for water.

Then check the physical envelope. No dimensions or weight are published for the PWD01, so request those figures together with the aisle width the machine has to work in and the doorway it has to pass through. The HW03 listing gives a hand-push format at L1150 × W520 × H1030 mm, which is a reminder that footprint varies by model and has to be confirmed for yours.

Ask what the machine is not rated for. On an industrial site, nearby chemicals, flammable atmospheres and wash-down areas all constrain a heated electrical machine, and a serious supplier will answer this as a written list of limitations rather than as a verbal reassurance.

4. Which protection features apply to the PWD01?

PowerDe's cleaning pages list leakage, short-circuit, high-temperature, high-voltage and water-shortage protection against some models, and the HW02 overview adds high-voltage-explosion protection. Those item lists are not identical from page to page, so ask which protections apply to the PWD01 specifically and have the confirmed list repeated in the technical specification attached to the order.

Ask also about the controls an operator will actually touch: how dry steam, wet steam and hot water are selected, how the machine signals low water, and what stops the heater from running dry. Steam machines are run by whoever is on shift, not by the engineer who commissioned them, so the control logic must be teachable in one briefing.

5. How is it refilled, drained and maintained?

Ask for the clean-water tank capacity on the PWD01 and how it is filled. Where the range does document this, it is specific: the HMW3 records a 50 L clean-water tank fed with tap water through a 4-point internal-tooth fitting. Confirm the water quality requirement as well, since scale is the most common cause of service calls on steam plant and is the one fault your own operating practice controls.

Ask what the maintenance schedule consists of - heater inspection, filter, nozzle, hose and wand replacement intervals - and ask for the spare-part price list before the machine arrives, so a worn nozzle is a stock item and not a two-week stoppage.

6. Which nozzles and accessories are included?

The PWD01 pages do not list accessories. Request the full accessory list, the hose and wand lengths, and the nozzle types, then match each item against the surfaces you clean: painted bodywork, wheels and wheel arches, trim, engine bays, garage floors. Ask what is sold separately, because the accessory spread decides whether one machine covers your workflow or you are buying a second kit six weeks later.

7. What documentation arrives with the machine?

Ask for the operating manual in your language, the electrical and pressure documentation your insurers or safety officer may ask for, and the declarations that apply in the destination market. The product pages give parameters and use descriptions but no certification list, so treat this as an open item to close before shipment rather than an assumption.

8. How are delivery, spares and support handled?

Confirm lead time, packing list, Incoterms and who handles import clearance. Then ask what happens when the machine faults: which channel you contact, what response time is promised, whether a technician travels or the unit is returned, and which parts are held in stock. PowerDe presents its capabilities as covering equipment R&D and manufacturing, system integration, customized configurations and technical support, so ask which of those attach to your order and what they cost.

Ask how many PWD01 machines the supplier ships in the configuration you want. A standing specification is easy to re-order and to source parts for; a one-off build is harder to repeat, and spares follow the same logic.

9. Which mobile model fits my site - PWD01, PWD02 or HMW2?

The PWD02 and the HMW2 are listed as driving-style machines with the same dry-steam, wet-steam and hot-water modes for the same garage and narrow parking environment, and the HMW3 as a hand-pushed unit in the same PowerDe steam cleaning machine range. Several platforms in overlapping settings are only useful if they can be compared, so ask the supplier to put the variants side by side on one sheet - power source, tank capacity, published performance figures, dimensions - and to say plainly which one they would put on your site and why.

Bring your own numbers to that comparison: vehicles per day, cycle time per vehicle, aisle width, and the power and water actually available. The right model falls out of those constraints, not out of a model name.

10. What does it cost to own, not just to buy?

Ask for the power rating and estimate the electricity cost per shift; ask for water consumption and estimate the water cost; ask for the service interval and the price of every part consumed at each interval. Then read the warranty: what is covered on the heater and on the battery, for how long, and what action voids cover. A machine quoted cheaply with a short battery warranty can finish the year dearer than a costlier unit with a longer term.

Before you send the enquiry

Write down what the machine has to do - vehicles per day, surfaces, shift pattern, available power and water - and send that with the questions above. If you want a PWD01 specified for a particular garage or parking operation, or a comparison against the PWD02, HMW2 or HMW3, send the site details through the customized steam cleaning equipment page, and the answers should come back as written parameters and a stated configuration rather than as general assurances.
