A quotation for a hand-pushed steam cleaner usually arrives with a price, a photograph and a short list of features. What it rarely answers is how the machine will be judged after delivery. Before you issue an RFQ, write down the measures your team will actually verify on the loading dock and in daily use. For a battery-powered hand-pushed hand-pushed steam cleaning machine, the useful list is short, and every item on it can be tested by the people who operate the machine.
Why define measures before you ask for prices
Hand-pushed steam cleaners sit between walk-behind scrubbers and fixed installation units. They are moved by an operator, carry their own water tank, and in the case of a battery machine such as the PowerDe HMW3 run on a 48 V working supply rather than a cable. That combination is exactly where specification gaps cause trouble. A supplier quoting on a vague brief will answer with marketing language. A supplier quoting against your written measures answers with numbers you can compare.
Measure 1: mobility through the space you actually have
State the smallest doorway, lift car, ramp and aisle the machine has to pass, and the length of the route between the water point and the work area. The published overall dimensions for the HMW3 are L1150 × W520 × H1030 mm, which is a starting point for a door check — not a substitute for measuring your own thresholds. Ask each bidder to confirm, in writing, that the machine reaches your work area without being lifted or disassembled, and ask what has to be removed to do it.
Measure 2: utility supply and water connection
A battery-powered machine removes one constraint and creates others. The HMW3 runs on a 48 V battery supply and is filled from tap water through a 4-point internal-tooth fitting. Your specification should therefore state what is available where the machine is used: the water point and its fitting, the space for filling, and — if a charger is supplied — the socket and the room needed while charging. The supplier's answer tells you whether a fitting adapter or a change of filling point is on your cost line.
Measure 3: energy input and tank capacity
Heating power and tank volume together decide how long a machine works before you refill or wait. The HMW3 is listed at 4.5 kW heating power with a PTC semiconductor heater and a 50 L clean water tank. Publish those two figures as your reference and ask bidders to declare theirs. On this model, steam temperature, steam pressure, battery capacity and run time are not published, so do not let any bidder borrow numbers from another machine or from a similar fixed unit. Require the bidder to supply the values for the exact model they are offering.
Measure 4: cleaning modes you will use
Decide in advance whether you need dry steam, wet steam, both, or also hot water. The HMW3 provides dry steam and wet steam, delivered through a high-pressure water gun with a nozzle. If your work includes light surface soiling and disinfection, dry steam and the right nozzle matter more than raw power. If your work includes heavy soil, ask how the wet-steam mode is adjusted and how the nozzle is changed. Name the surfaces in your brief and require the bidder to map each mode to those surfaces.
Measure 5: the disinfection and hygiene requirement
In hospitals and healthcare settings, the same category of machine is used for cleaning and disinfecting hospital beds and medical machinery. Frame that requirement as a process measure rather than an adjective: who cleans what, how often, and what record your inspection will accept. Ask bidders how their machine supports that process — the reach of the gun, the accessories, and how the machine itself is cleaned between rooms. For medical equipment steam cleaning, a written process description from the supplier is worth more than a brochure claim.
Measure 6: operator handling and safety
The machine is pushed by hand, so handling is a performance measure, not a comfort item. Ask about pushing effort on the floors you have, the handbrake, storage of the gun and hose while moving, and visibility of the tank level. For protection features, list what the supplier claims and require each claim to be tied to a component your team can inspect. Ask for the operating manual in the language your staff read, and test one full shift with the machine during evaluation.
Measure 7: serviceability and the data gap list
Some figures for a model may simply be missing from the datasheet. For the HMW3, the published page does not state steam temperature and pressure, battery capacity and run time, charger output, weight, hose and wand lengths, the accessory list, noise, or water consumption per hour. Put that gap in your RFQ as a table the bidder must complete, with each blank marked as a deviation if left empty. Then ask about service: warranty terms, where spare parts ship from, expected lead time for a heater or battery replacement, and who performs the first commissioning. PowerDe lists its cleaning range as a cleaning equipment series with both battery and non-battery variants, so make the variant you are buying explicit in the order.
Measure 8: acceptance criteria written as pass or fail
Convert the measures above into a short acceptance sheet: dimensions fit the route, the tank fills in under a stated time, the declared energy input matches the order, both steam modes are delivered at the gun, the machine is delivered with the listed accessories, and the documentation set is complete. Sign the sheet at handover. That single page protects you in a dispute far better than the marketing pages of a quotation.
A checklist to send with your next RFQ
- Route measurements: door widths, lift, ramp gradient, aisle turning space.
- Water point, fitting type, filling position, charging position and socket.
- Declared heating power, heater type, tank volume for the offered model.
- Completed gap table: steam temperature, steam pressure, battery capacity, run time, charger output, weight, hose and wand lengths, accessories, noise, water use per hour.
- Mode description for dry steam and wet steam, nozzle set, and adjustment method.
- Process description for disinfection tasks and how the machine is cleaned between areas.
- Warranty, spare-part source and lead time, commissioning and training arrangement.
- Acceptance sheet signed at handover.
If you want to check these measures against a specific machine, send your route dimensions and your utility details to PowerDe and ask for the completed data sheet before the quotation is finalised.
