What questions help define accessories for fixed steam cleaning machines?

A fixed steam cleaning machine is rarely judged on the machine alone. Two units with the same heater output can perform very differently once the hoses, nozzles, lances and tanks attached to them are wrong for the site. Before you request a quotation, it is worth writing down the answers to a short list of questions. Those answers tell the manufacturer which accessories belong on the machine, and they tell you whether the finished package will fit your workflow. The following questions are the ones we ask buyers of our fixed steam cleaning machine before we specify anything.

1. Where will the machine stand, and how far must the media travel?

Fixed units are installed once and then used around a fixed work area, so distance is the first constraint. Measure the path the operator will actually walk from the machine to the farthest point they clean, then add slack for corners and for lifting the hose over equipment. Straight-line distance on a floor plan underestimates this by a wide margin. The answer decides hose length, steam-hose diameter, and whether you need an extension lance or a second hose set stored on the far side of the bay.

PowerDe HW02, for example, is a 220 V unit with a 6 kW heater, an 80 L SUS304 tank, and a footprint of 1,200 × 800 × 1,200 mm including handles. That cabinet size means it stays put during a shift, which is exactly why the accessory reach has to be planned in advance rather than improvised later. If the required reach is longer than a single hose run can carry without a pressure and temperature drop at the nozzle, tell the manufacturer; a longer hose is not simply a longer tube.

2. Which surfaces are you cleaning, and what are you removing?

Surface material and soil type together select the nozzle. Painted bodies, glass, stainless steel, sealed floors, plastics and coated parts all react differently to saturated steam, and dried sugar, cutting oil, road grime and baked kitchen grease behave differently under heat. A wide fan nozzle spreads steam over a large panel and lets the heat work over time. A concentrated jet concentrates energy on a small, stubborn deposit. Rotating nozzles sit between these two.

HW02 switches between dry steam and wet steam, and the difference matters when you specify accessories. Dry steam carries more heat with less free water, which suits degreasing and sanitising where you want the surface to stay workable afterwards. Wet steam carries more water and is better for flushing loose debris. A package that only ships one nozzle type forces operators to clean every surface with the wrong tool. Ask for a nozzle set that covers both modes, with an extension lance for overhead and remote runs.

3. Do you need vacuum and disinfection in the same station?

Steam loosens soil; it does not collect it. On interior work, the loosened film has to be lifted off before it resettles, so a vacuum function changes what accessories you need: a wet/dry vacuum hose, floor heads, crevice tools and upholstery heads. HW02 is listed with an integrated vacuum cleaner alongside dry and wet steam, and its published uses include vehicle exterior cleaning at gas stations and parking lots, interior vacuuming and disinfection, and engine-compartment cleaning. Those three jobs need three different accessory groups, and a buyer who orders only the steam side will be buying the rest later.

State clearly in your enquiry which of these three jobs the station must cover, so the accessory list is quoted as one package instead of a series of small follow-up orders.

4. What is your water supply like at the installation point?

Fixed machines are usually plumbed in, so the inlet question is an accessory question. HW02 takes tap water through a 4-point internal-tooth joint with a 1/2 inch connection. Confirm that your pipework matches that fitting, or ask for the adapter you need. Also ask how the machine handles an interrupted supply: HW02 lists water-shortage protection, but protection stops the machine, it does not keep the job running. If your water pressure or supply schedule is unreliable, you may want a buffer tank or a fill arrangement that matches your shift pattern rather than the standard 80 L tank alone.

Water quality belongs in the same conversation. Hard water affects heater service intervals and therefore the spare-part package you should hold on site.

5. How many operators, and how many shifts?

A single operator on one shift can share one hose set and one set of consumables. Two shifts with different crews need duplicated wear items, storage that keeps the correct nozzle easy to find, and controls simple enough that nobody has to be shown the machine every morning. Write down crew size and shift count. The manufacturer uses that number to decide how many hand tools, lances, hoses and filter elements go into the standard package versus the spare kit.

Crew size also decides whether a fixed unit is the right machine at all. Where the work area moves constantly and the machine has to follow it, our PowerDe cleaning equipment range also includes battery-driven and hand-pushed models that stay with the operator instead of staying in one place.

6. What safety and site rules apply where it will run?

High temperature and pressure create site requirements. HW02 is a high-pressure machine running at 160° steam temperature and 0.8 MPa vapour pressure, and the page lists leakage, short-circuit, high-temperature, high-voltage, water-shortage and high-voltage-explosion protection. Bring your own constraints to the conversation: whether operators must wear protective gloves and face protection, whether the area is public, whether electrical enclosures must be a certain rating, whether the floor must stay dry during operation. These rules change accessory choice, for example insulated hose covers, trigger guns with a lock, or a lance length that keeps hands away from the steam path.

7. What must the machine not do to the surrounding area?

Near electronics, in a workshop with machine tools, or next to finished product, the acceptable amount of moisture and runoff matters as much as cleaning power. This is where dry steam becomes an accessory specification rather than a mode selection, because lower free water changes the nozzle, the distance from the surface, and the need for extraction. Describe what is within a few metres of the work area, and what must stay dry.

8. What is your maintenance and spare-parts plan?

Nozzles, seals, hoses, filters and vacuum consumables are the parts that wear. Ask which items are consumables, what the replacement interval looks like under your duty cycle, and how a replacement is ordered. A quotation that includes a spare kit sized to your shift pattern costs slightly more on day one and prevents a stoppage later. If your site cannot tolerate downtime, say so in the enquiry and ask what the recommended on-site stock is.

9. Do you need a standard model or a configured package?

Some buyers need a catalogue machine; others need a machine shaped around a process. If your answer to the questions above produces an unusual combination of reach, mode, extraction and safety requirements, say so early. Shenzhen PowerDe Automation Precision Equipment works on customized configurations and integrated engineering work as well as standard models, so an enquiry describing the process usually produces a better accessory specification than an enquiry naming a model number.

A short list to send with your enquiry

  • Installation point and the farthest cleaning distance you need to reach
  • Surface materials and the specific soil you must remove
  • Whether vacuum and disinfection are required in the same station
  • Water supply type, pressure, and water hardness if you know it
  • Number of operators and shifts per day
  • Site safety rules that apply to hot, pressurised equipment
  • What must stay dry or undamaged near the work area
  • Your downtime tolerance and preferred spare-parts holding

Answer those questions in writing and the quotation stops being a price for one machine. It becomes a defined station with a defined reach, and the comparison between suppliers becomes possible.
