How should a business plan a product demonstration for steam-cleaner installation requirements?

A buyer comparing steam cleaning for the outer surfaces of meat-processing equipment is not choosing between two machines. They are choosing between two cleaning routines, and the difference shows up later in water handling, downtime, chemical purchasing and audits. Before any quotation is requested, five groups of questions decide whether a commercial steam cleaning equipment package is workable in that plant or simply expensive.

What exactly has to be cleaned, and what must stay untouched?

Write down the surfaces first. The exterior of a mixer, the frame under a conveyor, a trolley chassis, a pump housing and a wall-mounted panel all behave differently under heat and pressure. Steam at atmospheric pressure and steam delivered through a nozzle are not the same task, and the accessories that make each one controllable are what determine the result.

Then list what must not be hit: bearing points, electrical enclosures, cable glands, sealed housings with a declared protection rating, insulation that traps water behind it. A supplier who cannot answer how the jet is limited to a surface, and what nozzle or shield is used, is selling a machine rather than a process. Send the photographs and ask for the matching nozzle and lance selection with the quotation.

Which cleaning medium does the plant actually need: dry steam, wet steam or hot water?

Most mobile units from Shenzhen PowerDe Automation Precision Equipment work in more than one mode, and the modes are where a quotation becomes easy to compare. The driving style units in the range, such as the PowerDe PWD01 steam cleaning machine, are listed with dry-steam, wet-steam and hot-water modes. Dry steam carries little free water, so it lifts grease and protein film from a surface while leaving the surrounding area close to dry. Wet steam adds moisture for heavier deposits. Hot water flushes loosened residue off the surface in one pass.

Ask the supplier to state, for each of your surfaces, which mode they recommend and why. An answer that names one mode for every surface is a sign nobody looked at your list. For exterior-only work on process equipment, dry steam usually comes first, because the water that runs off into the floor drain stays small.

Can the machine move where the work is?

Meat plants are narrow. Aisle widths, drain channels, door thresholds and the gap beside a line decide what can be brought in. Compare the machine footprint and the method of movement against your aisles, not against a showroom floor. The PWD01 and PWD02 are described as mobile active-water cleaning machines intended for indoor garages and narrow parking spaces, and PowerDe also lists hand-pushed units for tight indoor work. Take the dimensions on the product page, add the hose length, and check the turning path with a tape measure before deciding.

Power is the other half of mobility. Battery-powered mobile units move without a trailing cable, but you still need to know the working voltage, the charge time and where in the plant the charger will stand. The Fixed Steam Cleaning Machine PowerDe HW02 is a different answer entirely: 220 V supply, a 6 kW heater and an 80 L stainless tank, meant to be parked at a wash bay rather than pushed down an aisle. Ask which of the two layouts matches your line and your water and power points before the model choice is fixed.

What water, drainage and temperature conditions does the equipment assume?

Ask what the tank is filled with and what the inlet fitting is. The HW02 data sheet lists a tap-water inlet with a 4-point internal-tooth joint, and the hand-pushed HMW3 lists clean water in a 50 L tank with tap-water inlet. If your plant runs softened or treated water, confirm that is acceptable and ask whether a filter is required.

Then follow the water. Steam cleaning reduces the volume of rinse water, but the run-off from a meat plant still carries fat and protein and has to reach a drain that your effluent rules allow. Ask the supplier how much water a cycle consumes for a defined surface, so you can compare that number against your current wash-down volume on the same surface. Where the figures matter, PowerDe should be asked to supply them in writing, because they are not stated on every product page.

Temperature and pressure numbers deserve the same treatment. The HW02 page lists 160 °C steam temperature and 0.8 MPa vapor pressure. When a supplier quotes those values for a mobile battery model, ask at which point they are measured and under what load. A figure at the boiler is not a figure at the nozzle.

What protections and service commitments come with the machine?

PowerDe lists leakage, short-circuit, high-temperature, high-voltage and water-shortage protection across several of its cleaning machines. In a wet plant these are not marketing lines, they are the difference between a machine that keeps running and one that trips the circuit on a humid morning. Ask how each protection is indicated to the operator, and how the machine is reset.

Then ask about the parts that wear out: seals, hoses, nozzles, heating elements, pumps. Request a spare-parts list with prices and the lead time for each, plus who services the unit in your region and what the response time is. A machine that is hard to service turns into a wash bay that is out of use.

Run a trial on your own equipment, on your own soil

The decisive test is a defined area of your own equipment, cleaned by your own staff with the supplier's machine and their recommended accessories. Agree what you are measuring before the trial starts: whether the deposit is visually gone, whether a wipe test passes, how long the task took, and how much water ran to the drain. If the trial only uses a clean demonstration panel, it tells you nothing about protein film that has dried overnight on a frame.

For a plant where the layout, the soil or the documentation requirements are unusual, the same supplier can be approached about customized steam cleaning equipment rather than a catalogue model. Send the surface list, the photographs, the aisle dimensions and your water and power points in one enquiry, and the questions above get answered against your line instead of in general.
