What should be tested before adopting steam cleaning for passenger cars?

A mobile steam cleaning unit that will not start is usually an installation problem before it is a machine problem. Electricity, water, protection settings and floor access all have to be true at the same moment, and the machine only shows one symptom to the person standing in front of it. A short checklist, worked from the power side to the water side, explains most stoppages without opening the equipment.

Compare the installation conditions first

Put the site facts on paper before you compare any unit. A fixed machine such as the HW02 steam cleaning machine is listed at 220 V operating voltage and 6 kW heating power, with a half inch four point internal tooth connection for mains water and an 80 L tank in SUS304. Those figures are not a performance claim; they say what the building must provide, and that is the yardstick every comparison should start from.

Now list what your bay actually offers: the circuit and its protection, the water point and whether it needs an adapter, the drainage route, the door width and the turning space. A mobile unit looks flexible on a datasheet and fails in a bay where the only water point is 40 m away and the hose has to cross a driving aisle. Compare the site against the machine, not one machine against another.

Compare how each product gets its water and power

PowerDe builds the PowerDe PWD01 steam cleaner and the driving style PowerDe PWD02 as mobile hot water and steam units, each with a battery version for work away from a fixed supply and a non battery version where a socket is close to hand. That choice decides how often the operator stops. A battery unit buys reach and costs you run time; a corded unit buys a long shift and costs you a cable route. Write both costs down for your own layout.

The same comparison applies to water. A machine with an internal tank carries its own water and ends the shift when the tank is empty; a machine fed from the mains keeps running but inherits whatever the tap and the inlet can supply. If the bay has hard water, a mains fed unit will narrow its own inlet over a year, so the filter and softener you planned for belong in the comparison price.

Compare the protection behaviour, not the protection count

PowerDe lists protection items for these machines, including leakage, short circuit, high temperature, high voltage and low water protection. What matters in a comparison is what each item does to your shift, because each one points somewhere different. Low water protection is a supply question: the tap, the inlet screen, the hardness scale, and whether the tank was genuinely full. Leakage and short circuit indications are wiring and moisture questions, and they go to a technician rather than being cleared and restarted again and again.

Ask any supplier one blunt question in writing: when a protection item trips, what does the operator see, and what has to be true before the machine restarts? The answer tells you more about downtime than any list of features, and it is the number most buyers never collect.

Compare the modes against the surface

Steam, hot water and the mixed mode are not a preference; they are different amounts of liquid and heat on the same surface. Wet steam carries more liquid into a work area than dry steam does, so the choice is decided by the surface group and the dry out time you can allow, not by the label on the machine. For shared commercial steam cleaning equipment work, write one line per surface group before delivery: mode, gun distance, pass speed, number of passes, and how the surface is judged dry. That list is the only fair basis for comparing two offers.

Compare the records you will end up keeping

Every machine creates paperwork: fill volume and fill time, one line per stoppage, a dated photo of any inlet or screen you clean, and the parameter list for each surface group. A unit that hides its fill state or gives no visible signal when a protection item trips will produce a thinner record, and a thin record makes the next comparison harder. Choose the machine that makes the record easy, because that record is also the evidence you use later when you ask for a spare or a change.

When the bay is the constraint rather than the machine, specification has to start from your facts. Customized cleaning equipment is built around the floor plan, the water point, the circuit and the drainage route, so the installation conditions are settled before delivery. Send those four items with your question to the PowerDe contact page instead of a model number, and the answer comes back as an installation check rather than a sales list.
