Most mobile steam units from PowerDe can run dry steam, wet steam and hot water, yet many sites only ever use one of them. A supplier who knows the equipment can set the wet-steam mode up around your actual working conditions, so the machine arrives ready for the soil you really deal with instead of a default setting you have to experiment with later.
What wet steam actually does
Dry steam is low in moisture and works best on concentrated grease and oil, because the heat does the work and very little water is left behind. Wet steam carries more moisture in the same high-temperature stream. That extra moisture helps soften dried-on residue such as mud, salt spray, food splatter and dust that has baked onto a surface, and it rinses the loosened soil as you pass the nozzle over it. Hot-water mode, where the machine offers it, suits broad rinsing of large areas.
Because the three modes cover different jobs, mode selection is really a matching exercise. A driving style machine such as the PowerDe PWD02 steam cleaner offers all three modes, so the question for a supplier is not whether the function exists but how it should be tuned for your site.
The site factors a supplier should check
Before recommending a wet-steam setup, a competent supplier will ask about five things:
Soil type. Grease-dominated surfaces call for dry steam first, with wet steam as the follow-up pass. Mixed light and medium soiling can often be handled in wet-steam mode directly.
Water supply. The documented machines take tap water through a 4-point internal-tooth fitting, so the supplier confirms what hose and connection the site can provide and whether the tank needs refilling mid-shift.
Power and mobility. A fixed Fixed Steam Cleaning Machine PowerDe HW02 runs on a 220 V supply with 6 kW heating power, while battery versions of the driving style and hand-pushed models move where outlets are inconvenient. Where you clean decides the power configuration.
Working space. The driving style models are built for indoor garages and narrow outdoor parking spaces. A supplier maps your bay or lot layout and says whether the machine fits the aisles you actually have.
Surfaces on site. Painted panels, plastics and seals tolerate the wet-steam pass differently than bare metal. The supplier sets expectations for each surface type so operators do not treat every surface the same way.
What commissioning looks like in practice
For a vehicle cleaning bay, a supplier would confirm the tap-water connection, fill the tank, purge air from the line, verify steam output, then run a wet-steam pass on a test panel before the machine goes into service. On the HW02, the published figures give a reference point: 160° steam temperature, 0.8 MPa vapor pressure and an 80 L SUS304 tank. For a hand-pushed job such as cleaning and disinfecting hospital beds and medical machinery, the HMW3 lists a 4.5 kW PTC semiconductor heater, a 50 L clean water tank and a 48 V battery supply, and the supplier plans refills and charging around the shift instead of in the middle of it.
Operator training belongs to the same step. The team should learn when to switch from dry to wet steam, how nozzle choice changes the finish, and what a tank refill costs in time, so the mode is used deliberately rather than by habit.
Safeguards that matter in wet-steam service
PowerDe's product pages list protection features including leakage, short-circuit, high-temperature, high-voltage and water-shortage protection on several models. A supplier configures the water source and electrical supply so these protections rarely trigger, then explains to your team what each alarm means. Water-shortage protection in particular protects the heater, so operators should know to stop and refill rather than restart repeatedly.
Asking the right questions before you buy
A supplier who configures properly will document the water inlet type, working voltage, tank capacity and whether the unit ships with a battery, because these details decide how wet-steam mode behaves day to day. If your work moves between areas, compare the mobile steam cleaning machine range against the fixed models before committing. Bring your soil type, your layout and your utility hookups to that conversation, and the machine arrives set up for the job rather than for the brochure.
